Start Unit

Hi!

I´m Raquel, on Tuesday we said that every week one classmate write a post.

Last Tuesday we started a new unit, it´s about structures. On one hand we talked about the vocabulary. In the other hand we played a game. It consist:
we look at the computer some importants buildings, write their names and the places they are. We worked in groups.
It looks interesting and it´s very interesting

Finishing our 1st exchange work

Hi everybody!

Today we had a hard work. Our students had to create a text file with the computer, type their introductions (they had them on their notebooks) and add their photos, Finally, they had to send their works by edmodo so that I 'll be able to deliver to our Exchange school to be distributed.
As you can imagine, we are in a technology class, so we have included some conditions about the technical part of their work (related to type and size of the font, line spacing or using text justified). It's a pity that we don't have the Office in English, but next year I hope to get it.
In the end, they have had to hurry up, with the typical problems with computers (Teacher, teacher, the file is not attached, I can't download the photo.... ), but there is just one group which hasn´t sent their work properly, so it's a success and I expect to obtain this left work in several days.
Next week we'll start with another unit.

Let's start with our exchange

Hi everybody!

Here we are again. Today I've explained the methodology we're going to follow with the exchange.

Students from each country will prepare their work in their foreign language (English or Spanish). Then they'll exchange this work using edmodo. They'll have to correct each other's work, and finally they'll receive their original work corrected by their exchange partners.

They are going to work in pairs. In this first contact, they have to write a short introduction about themselves (name, age, nationality), their school, their city, the matter of Technologies, and also, they have to insert a photograph of them and the group.

Today they wrote some drafts, and next class, they'll have to write the text and add the picture in a text file, and they'll send it using edmodo. Here you have a picture of the group working on it.

Happy New Year. We're back!

Hi everybody!

Here we are again. More relaxed and full of energy, we've had our 1st class of CLIL of 2014 (remember, not twenty fourteen, but two thousand and fourteen, English is it!)

After talking a bit about the holidays, the three wise men and some technological presents, we started our work: finishing the cadstd drawing, and leaving our comments about the 1st term on the blog. I was a bit disappointed, because that was homework for Christmas and nobody did it, but now it's a new year, full of new purposes, and it's going to be the last time that happens, isn't it?

They encountered some difficulties with the scale of drawing (I don't know why, but automatically it was set by the program in 0,8:1 instead of 1:1), and sending the file by edmodo, because it was their first time. 

But we're learning and next time it will be better.

Almost everybody has finished the exercise, and two students have left their comments on the last post. The rest of them have promised to do it before next Tuesday. We'll check it.

Next week we'll start with the exchange with our USA partners, from San Francisco.

Last lesson before Christmas

Today is our last lesson of Technologies in English before Christmas.

During this term, if you followed our blog, you'll have noticed that we've learned lots of things:

• How to express ourselves in English during the class, asking for help, permission, apologizing, etc... CLASSROOM LANGUAGE
• Definition of Technology and the stages of the technological process.
• Most common vocabulary related to ICT: parts of computer, instructions...
• How to join and use edmodo: an online platform for communication between teachers and students.
• How to draw with Cadstd: a free software for technical drawing.

We've played games, we've listened to English descriptions to pick up some information, we've worked in groups, individually, with worksheets, with computers, we've read and written, spoken... In short, we've used the English as a way to learn technologies with a varied methodology.

Now, it's time to make a balance. I would like to know and show what my student's opinions are about this term: what they liked most, least,  suggestions and everything they want to express about these months...in English, of course!!!

So, please, leave me your comments on this post, so that I'll be able to analyze them and make improvements for the next term. You just need to prepare it a little bit and have a gmail account to do it. This is my homework for Christmas.

Unit 3: Graphic Expression

Hi everybody!!

As we said last week, today we've started a new Unit: Graphic Expression or Technical Drawing.

In this unit, we're going to use a free software called Cadstd .

We're going to draw a Tangram with this software. To do this, I've given them a sheet of paper with all the instructions to follow (in English, of course)

This software is already installed on the minis, so they have turned them on and started working.

They haven't finished yet. Next week we'll continue with the project.

As well, next week it will be our last lesson before Christmas and I've asked them to bring their dictionaries, and to have a gmail account, because we'll need them.

Last lesson about IT

Hi everybody!

Today we've finished our Unit 2, related to Information Technologies.

First we've reviewed some of the vocabulary using some flash cards. 

Then we played a listening game, available in the link below:

The game consisted of listening to 6 different descriptions of computer parts, and they had to guess which picture matched with each description. They had three options. Easy for them!!!

Then we listened to it again, but in this case, they had to pick more information: words, part of sentences...

Finally, we listened to it a third time, but we read the text at the same time, asking for new words, etc...

It has been quite interesting!!

There are thousands of resources for English and Technologies searching adequately the Internet. I've sent you this link by Edmodo too, in addition to last week links, so that you can practise whenever you want.

Next week we'll start with the Unit 3, related to Graphic Expression.
