Mary Phelps Jacobs (Caresse Crosby) and The Bra

Biography:Mary Phelps Jacbos borned the 20 April 1891, At New Rochelle NY (USA) .  At a high social class family, named Polly to distingish  her from her mother, was the older sister of 3 siblings, learned dance  taking advantage of their social class she learned equestrian, her father died in 1908, when she was 17.

 Her family moved to Watertown CT , where she met her future husband, Richard Peabody from one of the richest family in USA, they got married the 1915, and one year later he joined the army, at the border with Mexico, and later, at the 2nd World War, he came back in 1921 with several traumas from the war, and he became alcoholic and ludopath.

The 4th july of 1921, at the Independence day picnic, where Mary meet Harry Crosby while her husband was getting recovered from the drunkenness at the hospital, they had extramarital relations, something really strange in this time, and they got divorced in 1921 , Richard recovered his life and became teetotaler,  he wrote his experiences and became a Best Seller and a famous writer .

Mary changed her name to Caresse Crosby, and in 1922 the couple moved to Paris , where they found the Black Sun Press, where they published poetries and and in 1929 harry committed suicide and she became the writer of the Black Sun Press


In 1936 she got married again in Virginia (USA) with a 15 years younger football player  and  after divorce again in 1950 ,MaryPhelps Jacobs died in Roma (Italy) alone and depressed in 1970



Invention:The Bra
At 1910 at a party, the dress that she bought, wasnt able to carry the corset without showing it, they were big pieces of wood and metal, so she took 2 pieces of cloth, and joined them, so they were more comfortable and not such big, when she showed them to her friends, they all liked it, they thought it was a good idea, and they asked her how did she make them, and she decided to start selling them, and at 1914 patent, and made Caresse Crosby, and later, she sold it to theWarner Brother Corset company,  for 1.500 dollars, and they achieved 15millions in 30 years, (it wasnt the first idea of the bra, but it was the first one to start selling it and to get a patent)
